Read more Was this review Time for another update While we are only a few weeks into our new missions, my wife (who had Time for another update While we are only a few weeks into our new missions, my wife (who had never traded before) has been SIM trading for 2 weeks and has racked up an impressive 11 Wins, 6 losses with her winners being 2-3 times the size of the losses. This has yielded about 1,500 in profits off of trading 1 YM futures contract. Her goal right now is 1 trade per day (usually done by 8:30 - 9:00 AM (Pacific time) and to have a 100 up day each day. She has been pretty consistent at hitting these goals. I have also been trying to trade the YM, but not nearly as successfully. My years of longer term trading experience keep getting in my way - so I am actually down a little in my account - but still working to correct my bad habits. That said - My MAIN goal for taking the class was to improve my Long Term Stock trading and to beat my broker (who is still currently handling another account of similar size to the one I trade) and largely using the new tools I have learned at OTA, I saved myself considerable losses when the market flushed South over 1000 points 2-3 weeks ago and what relatively minor losses I did have, I have been able to steadily rebuild - so I am crushing my broker at this point as he just rode it all down (and trying to ride it back up now). If my record (vs. his) holds through the end of the year, I will drop him and take over all active management of my assets going forward (which was of course my personal goal from the start). One more comment on OTA, I continue to be VERY impressed with the amount of quality educational content they put out on a daily and weekly basis. My wife and I have each watched at least 50 XLT s (their recorded online classes designed to reinforce what they taught you in the live classes) and there are plenty more to go and they add 2-4 new ones each week Also - I sent in an email on a Sunday AM asking about an indicator I had seen used in one of the XLT s and I wanted to know how they set it up in TradeStation. I figured I would get some response in 1-2 days, but not sure if they would share the info with me or even know which one I was talking about - but I got a response within 10 MINUTES with a copy of the indicator attached that I could just at to my TradeStation set up. Anyhow - I have to say my wife and I are both MORE impressed than we had hoped, we had a GREAT instructor (Tre s and with all varying levels of computer competency and market knowledge. Many people barely knew what a stock was and most had no idea what an ETF was - he brought everyone up to speed in 10 days. I was very impressed that for the people that were having difficulties with concepts, trading platform, etc. the OTA support staff was with them every step of the way to help get them what they needed to understand and be successful. It was VERY OBVIOUS that the OTA staff was fully invested in our success for the long term and if for some reason a person does not succeed, it would not be from lack of support and help from OTA. Trading is NOT a get rich quick scheme, it can be very hard work (especially if you are totally new to it), but a strong commitment on a student s support - I am certain it is achievable - no matter what level or station in life you are starting from. To me, I think the biggest testament to OTA is that I am quite certain that if you asked each of the 25 students in our class if they felt it was worth the expense - I am pretty confident that all 25 would answer with a resounding YES Keep in mind that over 1/2 of the class obviously was not able to fully grasp all of the concepts, trading platform, chart reading, etc. that was taught to us over the 7 days - but OTA continued to show us and stress to us all of the great ongoing, online support materials available to us that will help us to revisit and lock in everything we were taught. You also have lifetime retakes (which seemed a little suspect to me and I wondered if they really did it, or just told you that) and over our last 7 days, we had one student do a retake from 7 years ago, one taking it a 3rd time from 2 years ago and one taking it for the 4th time. (Our instructor was an OTA student years ago and said he took it 6 times before it all sunk in). I guess the ultimate test will come with trading results - but I can say that during the course of the class (and their daily that their instructors share with students so they can take the trades too), I saw winners (and I took some winners) and I saw losers (and I took some losers), but the OTA method of trading focuses on picking the proper entry and then keeping your stop set tight (but in a proper location) and if you pick the right setup, your winners should be 3 times your losses, which if you only have 40 winners and 60 losers, you will still be profitable (but their ProPicks have been running about 58 winners for the last 1,200 trades or so AND the winners are consistently larger than the losers). After about 3 days in class, I started applying their methods to my personal trading and I took 5 small trades in class (on their money) as I was learning and I had 4 winners and one loser. I picked the stock, the entry, the stop, the targets based on their methodology and it WORKED. I know 5 trades in not a statistically valid sample, but I am convinced that even if I am not and have a string of losers, I will be able to review them with OTA and get help on what I need to adjust. One last comment - the only frustration I personally had was that having traded successfully for 10 years on the Tradestation platform, I was a little frustrated that so much time was spent teaching the class how to use the platform, enter an order, set up a workspace, save a chart, draw a trendline, etc. etc. Everyone else in the class really needed this knowledge and the instructor and OTA support made sure everyone got what they needed - but I personally already had this knowledge and respectfully suggest to OTA they break the class into two parts (Platform operation AND their trading method) and if a student can prove proficiency in the platform, don for me which was their patented method, so in some respects I feel like I paid money to help teach a class. Even with that said I am still VERY HAPPY - but hope they take this suggestion to heart for the future. I will say that IF you are a total newby with no knowledge of shorting, limit orders, market orders, trendlines, a trading platform, etc. - you WILL be overwhelmed during these 2 days, but. They are true to their work on taking class as many times as you want because we had 3 student retaking (one from a few months ago, one from about 2 years ago and one that took it 7 years ago and never used it and now wanted to get back to it, so I was glad to know that they will be there in future as needed. As far as the content - it was VERY GOOD and learning their zones concepts certainly do put a whole new light on how I look at the markets and my current holdings. Of course it is still way too early to see how these concepts will affect my net worth in the years to come - but I still feel great about my investment in the education I am getting (way better than the money I spent on college years ago). I should also say that as intensive as the 2 full days of training are - everything is also recorded and presented online and you can log in from home at any time to review, relearn and study any of the things you missed or just need a brush up on (this is not a recording of your actual class with you in it - but class that covered the same materials - but possibly in a slightly different way that would help things sink in better for you. In our first couple of days we received introductory calls from our Coach and student support specialist to walk us step by step through all of the many aspects of the OTA website and training materials we have access to and to show us a whole host of materials, webinars, etc. that we need to review and get comfortable with prior to our onsite class starting. This is our first and let me tell you that there is a LOT of great support and educational materials. No matter how inexperienced or experienced you are at trading - there is information that will significantly improve your knowledge. My wife has limited trading knowledge and is able to get detailed explanations of basic things such as CandleStick charting, basic chart patterns, tickers, level 2 screens, and a lot of training on their preferred platform - t need, as it is to steer you specifically to what you will need - and I feel great that OTA is starting us down this path. Finally, I should mention that in this s and I will be asking about that when I get to class). In Summary - I am very impressed with OTA s follow up, the materials they are providing to all of us for Prep prior to class (to help make sure we are all on the same page and can hit the ground running quickly) and their very obvious focus on making sure all students get everything they want out of the program. I am a former profitable trader that bought a non-trading business and is now bringing in some family to help run it. While I was busy growing my business, a was handling my assets in 2009 and I lost 1/2 of my wealth and I now have some time and want back into trading and to learn better techniques to better manage and preserve my wealth. The free 3-hour introductory class was pretty much as other people here have reviewed it, as it was a brief peek at the markets, but more than that, it was a sales pitch to attend their 3 day . The 3 day class was 299 and I thought well worth it. You should know that this 3 day class is also a sales pitch of sorts - but that said, it was MUCH more than a sales pitch - it exposed me to a lot of different areas of the markets that I only had hints of prior to this. Things like Options, Forex/ Currencies, Futures, Bonds, etc. Trading is a VERY BIG world and WHAT you trade depends a lot on your personal goals, objectives, risk tolerance, account size, station in life, etc. and these 3 days will give you a glimpse of those different areas and discussions with your Counselor/Coach/Sales person should help clarify what (if any of it) is right for you. While I did pick up some ideas, thoughts, etc. about improving my trading during these 3 days, it is largely an opportunity for you to in the markets. As I was doing my research, I saw a lot of comments about how what they teach is out there on the Internet, in other books, etc. for anyone that wants to go and get it and it could be. A big plus to us was that OTA offers lifetime retakes of their classes (what college offers that) and what appears to be a LOT of online support - but we only have a peak behind that curtain at this point, so I will have to fill in those blanks later. The bottom line as of today - I feel like my wife and I will get a good education over the coming weeks. She is largely just starting out (having executed trades, but not making trading decisions prior to this) and I hope to further my education and improve my trading returns using some of the Supply and Demand zone concepts they seem to have a good understanding of. Was this review I came in with the idea is that OTA is training day traders, but that s far from the case. They teach you to analyze your personality and your trading style and be realistic about the time you have available to do this. They have a counselor who will sit there with you and help you do this, through what they call the Wealth Education Plan. In fact they require you to go through the planning process before you take the three day survey class after your first workshop. While I like the idea of sitting in front of my computer at the comfort of my home playing the markets, I really don t have the temperament. I am more of a set and forget it type and the nice thing is that I am able to take the same concepts and apply them to trading maybe once a week and it still works. The staff is always courteous and professional and the instructors are fantastic. I have always felt that the staff had my best interest at heart as I was learning the materials. Though it did take some time to become proficient at the strategies, I have become much more consistent and profitable since joining almost 4 years ago.
